Hydrandea 'Sunset'
Weekly Garden Diary

Garden Diary – Figs, Blueberries & Tomatoes, not necessarily together!

The top photo is Hydrandea ‘Sunset’, she’s quite a newcomer to the woodland border so I’m thrilled how many flowers she has on this year, although I think like all shrubs she’s loved all the water. Unlike most of us humans!

The harvesting has really got going this week with as predicted the first tomato, who ate it? Find out below. And the first good hail of blueberries, despite the blackbird’s best efforts to pinch them!

The purple potatoes are nearly ready for me to have a root around and judging by the amount of flowers on the climbing beans its a good job I’ve defrosted one of the freezers this week!

The dahlias have finally got going and as we’ve had better weather (I’ve even had suncream on!) I’m pleased to report that there were many more bees in the garden and even a few butterflies, so that’s a bit of good news.

When we moved here & were working on the boundary, my neighbours day lily had to be dug up & she told me to keep some. It’s got bigger & better every year since 🌿🧡🌿🧡🌿🧡🌿

In yesterday’s sunshine I picked the first punnet of blueberries
The temporary (2020) cage had developed a hole & Mrs blackbird had been helping herself. Can’t blame her, they are delicious 💙🌿

I love the almost luminous shade of purpley pink 💜

Only bought 3 yrs ago and still in a pot, awaiting a new border

These beautiful flowers are from French Bean ‘Blauhilde’ 💜🌿

Long purple beans that taste delicious & purple veg have even more benefits like more antioxidants. Just like red wine & dark chocolate 🍷🍫😊 #happydays
