Garden Diary – Say goodbye to the lighter nights!

This is the week that really feels like Autumn is tipping towards winter, as the clocks fall back and we say goodbye to the lighter nights!

Despite this we’ve had some gloriously sunny days with fabulous blue skies showing off the still dominating pink flowers in the garden, especially the extra late cosmos dazzler which was backlit on a few occasions.

The pink shrub salvia is still covered, the dark pink dahlias are still sending up small blooms and a few Nerine bulbs have finally opened up like pink fireworks. I really thought they must have rotted as they were so late.

The sun and skies have also been setting off the autumnal colours on some trees, although it’s been the oddest season with some trees losing their leaves incredibly early and others only now turning the bright orange, yellow and red, we associate with autumn.

I’ve managed to get the last of my spring bulbs planted which is a lovely job on a sunny day. This always feels like such an optimistic thing to do, putting an ugly bulb into compost in hope of seeing beautiful flowers next spring.

By Saturday morning the cats were busy relaxing on their seat together, after yet another stressful week!!

My unsatisfactory end to the week was getting up at 06:45 on Sunday, as I’d forgotten all about the clocks falling back. I have a clock that doesn’t automatically change the time, unlike the under gardener who’s fancy clock updates itself. He apparently glanced at his clock and went back to sleep!

It’s a #Caturday morning chill out for the elderly ladies, both 17 1/2yrs now & doing quite well. I think it’s their stressed out attitude to life that keeps them going 😹😹
Oh to be as chillazed as a cat πŸ€—

After getting up too early, I simply found a hundred extra jobs to do and forgot to post a photo!

Happy gardening.
