Garden Diary – Pink for Girls? Not for this little girl!
When I was a little girl everyone still thought, ‘pink was for girls’. Well not this little girl! Without really thinking about it I just always proclaimed that I hated pink and that blue was my favourite colour.
It’s funny how often I was asked what my favourite colour was as a child, I don’t know if people still ask children things like that nowadays. Of course I only said blue because it was supposed to be for boys, but over the years blue is an absolute favourite of mine.
In the garden I started off with mainly white flowers – which is why I’ve got a whole section of white at the bottom of the garden. Gradually colour seeped in with purple and orange, then red and a bit of yellow. Finally I was given some pink geraniums and a pink rose ‘Mary Rose’, both of which I still have, bringing them with me from my last garden.
I’ve introduced more and more pink into this garden, and last year I sowed rather a lot of pink flowers as they just stands out so much. I think I can say that I’ve finally learned to love pink!
The bumper harvest season is now over with just a few tomatoes and raspberries. There are some winter crops including the cabbages that are happy with the dropping temperatures.
The fresh beans finished a while back and it was just the borlotti beans still on the arch waiting to be dried out in the sunshine (ha ha). Well they’ve finally reached the point for picking this week.
It’s always strange on social media, with which photo’s prove a hit. This week I posted a close up of the freshly shelled borlotti beans on X (Twitter). Well it turned into a sensation becoming my second most popular post since I started in February 2021. It ended up attracting 1500 likes and was viewed by 19,000 people!
Well, I suppose Jack chose beans over a cow and look what he ended up with up his beanstalk. A golden egg laying goose, lol!

Look at all this pink in my garden 🌿💕🌿
As a little girl I HATED pink, just because it was ‘a girls colour’ & I was supposed to like it.
If asked I always said my favourite colour was blue 💙
Blue is still my favourite, but I have finally embraced my pink side 😊💕🌸

Plants, seeds & bulbs of course 🤗🤗🤗
