Garden Diary – Moving from early spring into late spring
The grey cooler weather last week did at least allow me to get some gardening jobs done, and the rain was extremely welcome for the dry borders.
I managed to get the dolly tubs planted, with Begonias in the middle, and around the outside, Anemones that I’d started off earlier in the year together with Mexican Fleabane that just keeps spreading…
They’ll take a few weeks to really get going but it will be worth the wait.
I finally got some of the raised vegetable beds weeded, with help from the under gardener. The red onions were planted last autumn and are now growing well with the warm weather.
As most of the larger tulips are now showing signs of going over, I was over the moon to find a medium sized pot, hidden amongst the larger pots, full of flowering mini tulips ‘little princess’. Thank goodness I found it before they’d gone over.
As we approach the end of April, you can really see the changes in the garden. The early flowers are now showing signs of fading and the next wave of late spring flowers are opening daily, even some of the early summer flowers are tantalisingly close to opening.
We are now eating regular salad from the garden, together with some brassicas and baby fruit is swelling everywhere.
There’s always something to look forward to in the garden!

I planted Tulip ‘El Niño in with ‘Ballerina’. They’ve certainly created some heat on the patio 🧡❤️
I love the shading on the outside petals.
Taken in Sundays glorious sunshine ☀️

This rose, that I’m still fostering for a friend is ridiculously healthy, loving pot life here!
It already has buds on & 3 bees yesterday thought it’s glossy leaves were a perfect sunbathing spot 🌿💛🐝🐝🐝

As I say goodbye to this year’s cherry blossom, I say hello to the cherries swelling behind the flowers.
Time to roll the netting down as I’m not sharing! 🍒🍒🍒
