Garden Diary – June – New Border, Roses & Strawberries
June means summer flowers and the produce properly getting going. Roses in full bloom scenting the air, the taste of our first strawberry and my one and only peony coming out, after me worrying it had died over winter. I like June!
Campanulas have been popping up in the wilder border but more surprisingly in the opposite woodland border, where I certainly didn’t plant them. That’ll be my little wildlife friend’s.
We had the first two ripe strawberries at the beginning of the week, but by Sunday we had a proper dish full for breakfast. I can’t believe, that neither the many squirrels or blackbirds haven’t spotted them yet. Long may that continue!
Even the greenhouse has got going with all the tomato plants having green tomatoes on, although some varieties will stay pretty much green. My stripy ‘green zebra’ only turn slightly yellowy when they’re ripe.
The gardeners mate ate his first two cucumbers last week. Unfortunately I don’t even like the smell of them so he is welcome to them.
A Clematis that’s been in a pot for the last few years, finally got planted into my new border and boy is it happier! In fact everything I’ve planted in it is doing so well.
It was where I had my rhubarb plants and a couple of blueberry bushes. They have been re-housed into the raised vegetable beds, as I was desperate for a really sunny flower bed, especially by the greenhouse where I spend an awful lot of time.
We (the gardeners mate & I) dug the rhubarb and blueberries up in early March when they were still dormant. I had all the flowers planted a couple of weeks later, it’s fair to say that I couldn’t wait!
I can’t tell you how much pleasure it has given me already, I even sit down and admire it. Happy days!

The Peony I bought last year had me worried for a while. I was looking at the spot that I planted it thinking, nothing yet…🤔
But hey, I needn’t have worried 🌿💕🌸💕😊

Now we are talking! Sunday morning breakfast just got a whole lot better 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
Strawberries are surprisingly easy to grow, even in a pot or hanging basket. Have a go, you won’t regret it!

The simple pleasure of foxgloves. They popped up on their own in my little wild patch 🌿🌸🩷 #bloomscrolling #flowersonsunday
